Overview

Certificate III in Hairdressing is designed for those who wish to become a professional hairdresser. Students at this level will demonstrate competence in communicating in the workplace, consulting with clients, selling products and services and applying a broad range of technical hairdressing services to clients. Individuals will learn a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required and are responsible for their own outputs.

  • Perform full and partial foiling, tinting and bleaching services

Entry Requirements

Domestic students (DS) seeking to enrol in the program must:

  • Demonstrate their competence in language, literacy and numeracy levels when enrolling into the course. A pre-training review of an applicant’s language, literacy and numeracy skills during the application process will be conducted including one-on-one interviews
  • Domestic students under 18 years of age MUST provide written evidence of exemption from their school or the regional director at the Department of Education & Training
  • Domestic students seeking to access available/ applicable government subsidies will further, need to undertake assessment and provide evidence of their eligibility to receive the subsidies
Entry Requirements for Apprenticeship/ Traineeship students

Apprenticeships or Traineeships

  • Demonstrate their competence in language, literacy and numeracy levels when enrolling into the course. A pre-training review of an applicant’s language, literacy and numeracy skills during the application process will be conducted including one-on-one interviews
  • Must be either employed or be willing to be employed at an organisation willing to participate in the apprentice program
  • Apprentices seeking to access available/ applicable government subsidies will further need to undertake assessment and provide evidence of their eligibility to receive the subsidies
Entry Requirements for International students

International Students studying in Australia on a student visa (IS) seeking to enrol in the program must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Successful completion of a Pre-training review with Accend Education Group
  • English proficiency levels of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent or completion of a Literacy, Language and Numeracy (LLN) assessment
  • Completion of Year 12 or equivalent

Assessment

The hairdressing sector is predominantly comprised of small businesses, many of which are operated as salons by self-employed hairdressers. Students have access to a fully equipped Hairdressing salon services environment (simulated) for practical demonstration and observations of all appropriate units throughout the course. Practical tasks will be set for each student that relate to the course structure and hairdressing. 

ACCEND has the hairdressing services open to public, where students are able to maintain their skills required to successfully complete this qualification. An assortment of assessment methods structures this qualification including Practical Observation, Written Assessment, Project and simulated Workplace observation. Students will have access to a full range of hairdressing resources required for this qualification. 

Assessments given to participants will occur in set tuition time (observational based assessments) and outside class time (project based assessments). All practical demonstrations will be observed by a ACCEND Trainer/Assessor.

In meeting their obligations to train a trainee, ACCEND will ensure that:

  • The student has access to the full range of settings/experiences required to develop competencies in all aspects of hairdressing
  • The student has access to the full range of tools and equipment commonly used by workers employed in hairdressing
  • The student will be instructed and supervised by a suitably qualified and experienced person

  • SHB40216 Certificate IV in Hairdressing
